Backup Custodian (part-time)

This position will be on an “as needed” basis for the Chambersburg and Shippensburg Campuses. Due to the nature of this position, there may be short notice of hours needed and will require some day, evening, and weekend work. The role of the Backup Custodian will be to fill in and assist to ensure that the Grand Point Church campuses are clean, safe, and attractive for all. The main focus for this role will be on the interior spaces with limited outdoor requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Backup Custodian will be responsible for the following:Duties may include but are not limited to the following examples:

  1. Shampoo carpets
  2. Mop tile floors
  3. Run floor scrubber in Multi-Purpose Room (Chambersburg Campus)
  4. Dust blinds and walls and remove cobwebs
  5. Clean dry erase boards
  6. Clean windows on inside and outside
  7. Empty and clean waste receptacles; transport trash and waste to disposal area
  8. Vacuum all carpeting
  9. Dust all furniture, equipment, chair rails, and baseboards
  10. Wipe down all glass and metal surfaces
  11. Return chairs, tables, books, materials, and similar items to their proper place
  12. Clean and sanitize restrooms including sinks, urinals, toilets, and floors
  13. Stock restrooms as required
  14. Cleanup as required following events, meeting, and services

Wednesday Services (Chambersburg Campus): Provide a thorough cleaning prior to Wednesday Services and a general cleaning after Wednesday Services for the following areas:

  1. Sanctuary
  2. Narthex
  3. Youth Ministry Center
  4. General Classrooms
  5. Hallways
  6. Restrooms (should be clean at all times and free of odor)
  7. Library
  8. Café
  9. Café Kitchen
  10. Nursery
  11. Offices
  12. Kitchen
  13. Children’s Worship Center
  14. Multi-Purpose Room
  15. Pavilion (provide a thorough cleaning once per week from spring through fall)

Other areas of attention: 

  1. Notify Facilities Coordinator or Church Administrator when repairs are needed
  2. Fill in for Facilities Coordinator when necessary for opening, cleaning, and closing an event
  3. Keep inventory of all supplies (toilet tissue, towels, soap, cleaning supplies, etc.)
  4. Other duties as assigned

Job & Moral Qualifications:

• Must be a professing Christian
• Must hold an active membership, attend regularly, and be in good standing with a local church
• Must strive to live in such a way as to bring the utmost respect in representing the church
• Must demonstrate a high level of trust
• Must have a minimum of five years of experience in cleaning large facilities
• Must be energetic and take pride in keeping the church clean
• Must be physically able of carrying out the required activities
• Must be flexible in availability to accommodate the schedule of church activities
• Must possess the ability to work independently without supervision
• Must be able to build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and the public
