Disability Awareness Training

March 15

@

1:00 - 3:00pm

We’re excited to offer two upcoming training sessions to help equip our volunteers to better serve individuals and families affected by disability at Grand Point. These trainings will be held at GPC-Chambersburg in D20 (the large KidsPoint room) by Sarah Bush from Joni & Friends. A light lunch will be provided, so please RSVP if you would like to attend.

No childcare will be provided, but your family is welcome to attend together.

Who Should Attend

  • KidsPoint volunteers from any campus
  • Families affected by disability who want to learn more about our new ministry
  • Individuals interested in serving in this ministry in the future
  • Those who would simply like to learn more about disability etiquette

Disability Awareness Training
This first session will explore the gospel-centered heart behind inclusive discipleship. We will talk about why intentional, inclusive discipleship matters and how it reflects God’s heart for all His people. We’ll also cover disability etiquette—how to interact respectfully and thoughtfully with individuals living with disabilities and their families. This includes using honoring language, communicating directly, offering help appropriately, and partnering well with parents and caregivers to create a welcoming environment for the whole family.

Buddy Training
Our second session will focus on implementing a Buddy Program within our KidsPoint Ministry (starting first at GPC-Chambersburg and eventually rolling out to our other campuses). Volunteers interested in becoming a buddy will learn practical ways to support students with disabilities as they participate, build friendships, and grow in their faith—while also supporting and encouraging their families.

Please reach out to Jen Morris (jenmorris302@gmail.com) with any questions.
