Executive Pastor

GPC Job Description

  • Status: Full time
  • Reports To: Lead Pastor
  • Department: Executive Administration

The role of the Executive Pastor (XP) is to assist the Lead Pastor in overseeing the life and direction of the church. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values, and strategy of Grand Point Church and the ability to align staff and key leadership teams with its mission. The Executive Pastor will ensure that the systems, practices, and policies of the church responsibly and effectively support its ministry activities. The Executive Pastor can move seamlessly from following the lead of Lead Pastor to leading the staff.

Qualifications

  • Committed and mature follower of Jesus Christ, modeling biblical leadership standards (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1).
  • Agreement with the church’s statement of faith and mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Theology, Ministry, Leadership, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of pastoral ministry leadership experience, including supervisory responsibility.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and team-building skills.
  • Proven ability to translate vision into action with measurable results.
  • High emotional intelligence, relational skills, and conflict resolution ability.
  • Familiarity with ministry management software and contemporary communication tools.

Role Responsibilities:

The Executive Pastor (XP) will be responsible for the following:

1. Strategic Leadership and Planning: The XP will be responsible for leading strategic development of the mission and vision as set by the GPC Elder Team and will ensure the integration of GPC’s vision and values into all aspects of ministry.

The XP will champion the development of ministry leaders and ministries that support the long-term growth of the church through catalyzing coaching and activities that allow GPC to remain true to its mission and vision while developing new ministry programs so that the church is appropriately responsive to identified needs and church health.

This leadership and input will be provided through many activities, including the following:

  • Serve as a staff liaison to the Elders by attending and participating in the monthly Elders meetings and providing reports to the elders that capture the strengths, weaknesses, and threats to the health of ministries of Grand Point Church
  • Work closely with the Executive Director of Operations to ensure staffing, facilities, and programs are appropriately and effectively aligned to best meet strategic goals
  • Work with the Lead Pastor on the development and implementation of future ministry initiatives and plans
  • Provide leadership and organizational oversight for the Executive Team, including the Executive Director of Operations and Executive Director of Advancement, and serve as primary leader of the Executive Team meetings

2. Staff Supervision and Leadership Development: The XP will provide leadership to the staff team. The XP will oversee the leadership, evaluation, and mentoring of the existing staff in their respective areas of ministry and prioritize staff additions. Staff supervision and leadership development includes the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee core ministries with a focus on overall communication between staff, ministry objectives, goal setting, evaluation, and budgeting. Core ministries include:
    • Children, Youth, & Young Adults
    • Men & Women
    • Pastoral Care
    • Worship & Tech
  • Coordinate and lead staff meetings as well as coordinate and lead regular meetings with the ministry directors
  • Oversee staff training and continued staff development
  • Provide leadership in shaping and maintaining a positive, spiritually vibrant staff culture by ensuring alignment with GPC’s vision, values, and relational expectations across all ministry teams
  • Oversee staffing initiatives, staff events, and staff appreciation efforts, including gifts and recognition
  • Address staffing concerns and interpersonal conflicts with professionalism and a positive, solution-oriented approach. Lead disciplinary processes with compassion, adhering to established guidelines and procedures
  • Implement the hiring and dismissal process in consultation with the Lead Pastor and the Elders
  • Provide coaching to the staff in the design and implementation of all church ministries, including periodically evaluating appropriate changes to organizational structure and ministry strategy
  • Work with Executive Director of Operations to ensure that human resource policies and church policies are followed and enhance ministry effectiveness
  • Uphold strict confidentiality regarding employee matters and workplace information, maintaining a high standard of privacy and trust

3. Oversight of Multi-Site Ministry: The Executive Pastor will provide leadership and oversight to the multi-site ministry of GPC including the following responsibilities:

  • Oversight for the development of future campuses ensuring there is clarity of purpose and that goals and objectives are being met. The EP will ensure the launch plan is being followed and that timelines are being met
  • Oversight of the existing campuses ensuring that they are following the mission, values, and processes and procedures of central services
  • Develop a system of evaluation and strategic planning for various areas of the multi-site ministry
  • Work with our denomination, outside agencies, and other organizations to help develop the multi-site ministry and multiplication culture

4. Team Collaboration:

Each member of the GPC staff will work as a team to accomplish the mission of GPC. Effectively communicating with all staff is a must and is essential to the success of each role as well as successfully accomplishing the mission of GPC. This may include duties outside the normal realm of their position but are imperative to the fulfillment of our objectives as a whole.
