Since announcing my succession plan on the weekend of May 30-31 I have received numerous congratulations on my retirement. While some form of “retirement” might be in my future a succession plan is not a sudden hand-off, rather it presents itself as a multi-phase transition.
The first phase was building and sharing the transition plan. As I shared in my announcement, this plan was being built for several years and it was graciously received and affirmed by the GPC congregation, so much so that, for me, it immediately transformed uncertainty into opportunity. It’s the opportunity to lead the structured process of preparing GPC through a confident transition into an exciting future.
The next phase of the succession process will be to meet with an appointed seven-member search committee to begin the process of drafting a church profile, reviewing the position description, determining a promotional platform, and then vetting and interviewing candidates.
The first meeting of the search committee will be on Monday, August 3. Please join us in praying for the succession process and for the search team members as they meet.
